1. The first three generations of this family are summarized from Michelle Maultsby Richardson, 2004.

2. John and Mary landed in Philadelphia November 30, 1699. They moved to North Carolina, owning a large tract of land where the city of Wilmington is now situated. (Richardson, 2004.)

4. Thomas Malsby (sic) was listed in the 1790 census of Bladen County, Wilmington District, page 188b: 1 male 16 and older, 1 male under 16, 2 females, 2 slaves. Also listed were Anthony Malsby and James Malsby.

5. Josiah Maultsby was listed in Columbus County in the 1820 through 1870 censuses. In 1820 he held four slaves. In 1830 he held fourteen slaves. In 1840 he held 25 slaves. The 1850 Slave Schedule has him holding 50 slaves. The 1860 Slave Schedule has him holding 96 slaves. In the 1870 census he was listed with $10,000 of real property.

6. Carver Maultsby was listed in Columbus County in the 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1860 censuses and in Bogue Township, Columbus County in 1870 and 1880. The 1860 Slave Schedule has him holding 50 slaves.

7. David and Sarah Smith were listed in Columbus County in the 1850 census.

8. John A. and A. J. Maultsby were listed in Columbus County in the 1860 census. He was a Sawyer with $14,000 of real property and $53,000 of personal property. John A. and Annie J. Maultsby were listed in Whiteville in the 1880 census. He was listed as “Merchant”.

9. W. Q. and Penelope Maultsby were listed in Columbus County in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. He and Letitia/Letsy A. were listed in Whiteville Township, Columbus County in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. The 1850 Slave Schedule has him holding 10 slaves. The 1860 Slave schedule has him holding 10 slaves. In the 1860 census of Columbus County Letitia A. Young was listed, age 31, “School Mistress”.

10. Neill and Margaret Maultsby were listed in Columbus County in the 1860 census. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses Margaret was listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County. In 1900 she and her daughter, Sarah, were listed with Henry and Matilda Wyche.

11. S. W. Maultsby, age 26, was listed in Columbus County in the  1869 census. He was a “turpentine farmer”. S. W. and C. E. Maultsby were listed in Bogue Township in the 1880 census. In 1900 they were listed in Lockwood Folly Township, Brunswick County.

12. J. P./Jonathan P. Pierce and Lydia were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County, in the 1870 and 1880 census. In the 1900 census Jonathon P. and Mary S. Pierce were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County.

13. In the 1880 census Guilford and Nancy Maultsby were listed in Bug Hill Township, Columbus County. In 1900 they were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County. In 1910 Guilford and Catherine Maultsby were listed in Welches Creek Township, Columbus County.

14. Samuel B. and Narcissa Smith were listed in Columbus County in the 1860 census. He was a “Master mechanic” with $2500 in real property and $2500 in personal property.

15. J(ames)  D. and Bettie Maultsby were listed in Whiteville Township in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses of Columbus County.

16. Clatie W. and May Smith were listed in Whiteville Township in the 1900 census. He was a “Minister”. In 1910 they were listed in White House Township, Robeson County, NC. His occupation was “Preacher, Methodist”.

17. John A. and Bessie D. Maultsby were listed in Campville Township, Alachua County, FL in the 1910 census. He was the “Operator of a brick kiln”.

18. Bogue S. and Bessie R. Maultsby were listed in Montgomery, AL in the 1900 census. In 1910 he as listed as B. S. Maultsby, Wd, in the 1910 census of Montgomery, AL, dated April 5, 1910. His name is usually listed as “Bog”, but in the 1900 census he was distinctly listed as “Bogue S. Maultsby”.

19. Frank C. and Lucy Burney were listed in Whites Creek Township, Bladen County in the 1880 census. In 1900 they were listed in Brown Marsh Township, Bladen County.

20. David S. Maultsby, age 47, was listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County in the 1900 census. He was living with his brother, William, and his sisters, Sarah, Flora and Lucy. In the 1910 census Maulsey Maultsby, age 44, Widow, was listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County.

21. Modessa Cashwell and three children were listed with her mother, Letitia, in Whiteville Township in the 1900 census of Columbus County. In 1910 and 1920 William and Modessa were listed in Whiteville Township. He worked at a sawmill. In 1930 Dezie Cashwell, age 60, was listed in Whiteville Township.

22. Zeb Maultsby, age 39 was listed in Whiteville Township the 1910 census with his mother, Letitia, age 83. He was a “Mail carrier, general delivery”.

23. Henry Wyche was listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census his son, James A Wyche, was listed as head of Household.

24. William Eli Maultsby was listed in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County in the 1900 and 1910 censuses.

25. William E. and Dora W. Knox were listed in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. She was listed in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County in 1930.

26. Josiah was listed in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses.

27. George L./G. L./G. Lester and Mary M./Lizzie/Mary E. Edwards were listed in Town Creek Township, Brunswick County in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses.

28. Robert H. Maultsby, age 32 and single, was listed in Lockwood Folly Township, Brunswick in the 1910 census. His brother, Samuel W. Maultsby was Head of Household. Their mother, Catherine E., age 70, was listed with them. Daisy B. Kopp, age 27 and her son William a Kopp, were listed in Smithville, Brunswick County. R. Henry and Daisy B. Maultsby were listed in Lockwoods Folly Township in the 1930 census He married at age 32, she at age 23, which had to have been her 1st marriage.

29. Samuel and Geneva Maultsby were listed in Lockwood Folly Township, Brunswick County in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses. (Her death date, obtained form Louis Powell’s web page, is  the date the census taker recorded their household.)

30. Frank and Annie Galloway were listed in Town Creek Township in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses of Brunswick County. In 1910 and 1920 he was a “farmer”. In 1930 he was a “rail road mechanic”.

31. Egbert A. and Flora Maultsby were listed in Whiteville Township in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses. In 1920 she was a public school teacher. In 1930 he was a County Court Recorder.

32. Bruce and Della Pierce were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. In 1920 and 1930 they were listed in Whiteville Township.

33. Vance and Matilda/Sarah were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses.

34. Felix and Virginia E. Maultsby  were listed in Tatums Township in 1920 and in Williams Township in 1930.

35. Wade H. and Halena Pierce were listed in Adamsville Township, Marlboro County, SC in the 1910 census.

36. Felton and Sallie Maultsby were listed in Bogue Township, Columbus County in the 1930 census. He was “Foreman, timber yard”. They had been married 4 years.

37. Haynes and Clyde Maultsby were listed in Waccamaw Township in the 1930 census.
